Voices of Hope

Genevieve Mora & Jazz Thornton

What started as a conversation between two people quickly turned into the realisation that there was a bigger story that needed to be told. Voices Of Hope came into existence as that story. The mission of Voices of Hope is to provide hope for those struggling with mental health issues by promoting mental well-being, empowerment and recovery.

Founded in 2014 by Genevieve Mora and Jazz Thornton. Both being mental illness survivors they felt the need to use their past experiences alongside their passion for creating content to provoke and bring change. They do this by creating videos that target mental illness issues as well as writing blog posts on different topics. Since the launch of Voices of Hope, their content has received both national and international recognition and has caught the attention of companies wanting to support their vision.

Makaia Carr

Motivational Speaker & Body-positivity Advocate

Entrepreneur and influencer Makaia Carr left school at 16 and was pregnant with her first child a year later. In her own words, she was a ‘Maori teen mum from the ’Naki’ who others expected to end up on the DPB. Instead she worked her way up through the fashion industry, launched her own online fitness community and clothing brand, and is now in demand as a motivational speaker and social media influencer. She has overcome depression and what she now recognises was an unhealthy relationship with her body, to promote a message of self-love and empowerment.

Makaia recently wrote a book – Keeping it Real, in which she openly shares her struggles and the strategies that help her to maintain a positive body image and outlook. Her story is a reminder that physical and emotional well-being starts with self-acceptance. We will be selling signed copies at the event for only $40 (cash only)!
